Woman charged with murder after body found in Melbourne river

The body was discovered by a passerby in the Maribyrnong River, near Smithfield Road in Flemington, on Sunday.

On Wednesday, Victoria police said detectives had arrested a 49-year-old West Footscray woman along with a 15-year-old West Footscray boy on Tuesday afternoon.

The woman was charged with murder after a police interview and was due to face court on Wednesday.

The boy was released without charge.

Police believe the pair knew the victim, who was yet to be formally identified.
